Can FunnelBrain shuffle flashcards and track my progress?
Yes! FunnelBrain has a learning application called the FUNNEL that manages the flashcard review process to make it as efficient and effective as possible using a spaced repetition algorithm that helps the student to focus attention on the materials they have not mastered. To use the FUNNEL application, simply click the "Enable" button under the "Track My Progress" section of the Flashcard.
Why is the FUNNEL such an efficient learning system?
The FUNNEL makes sure you spend most of your time reviewing the questions you still need to learn, instead of the questions you already know. The FUNNEL can do this because it knows the last time you reviewed each questions and whether you “got it” or “missed it." Second, the FUNNEL uses something called “spaced repetition” to help knowledge move from your short term memory to your long term memory. Basically, as a card makes its way down the FUNNEL, the FUNNEL waits longer and longer before it shows you that card again. The FUNNEL is FunnelBrain's implementation of a learning management system called the Leitner Method.
What is the 3rd Side of the Flashcard ?
The 3rd side is used to help explain the answer to a question or to provide a memory trick like a mnemonic device. You can add an explanation using videos, text, audio voice-over, or pictures to any flashcard when the question and/or answer would benefit from a deeper or more lengthy explanation. This is often the case, since the questions and answers on the cards tend to be very brief. An Explanation can be in any form, but the best Explanations are videos.
What are Mnemonics?
A mnemonic is a memory trick, a device to help you remember something. For example, you can remember the names of the five Great Lakes with the mnemonic HOMES (which stands for Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior). You can remember the planets of the solar system in order with the sentence “My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas,” for Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto (if you want to nix Pluto you can make up your own). Mnemonics can be extremely effective learning aids as videos, text, images, and audio. They can get much more elaborate and apply to almost any subject.
