Rule #1 - use commas to separate words,phrases,and clauses in a seris.
Rule #2- Use comma to separate two or more adjectives that come before a noun .
Rule#3- Use a comma before and,but ,for,nor,or,so,or yet when it joins independent clauses in a compound sentence.
Rule #4- Use commas to set off an expression that interrupts a sentence
Rule # 5 - Use commas to set off nonessential participial phrases and nonessential subordinate clauses.
Rule#6- Use a comma after certain introductory elements .
Rule#7 - Use commas to separate items in dates and addresses .
Rule #8- Use commas in dialogue
Rule #9- use a comma after the salutation of a personal letter and after the closing of any letter
