If the cytoplasm of a cell is at pH 7, and the mitochondrial matrix is at pH 8, this means that

A) the concentration of H+ ions in the cytoplasm is 7/8 the concentration in the mitochondrial

matrix.

B) the mitochondrial matrix is more acidic than the cytoplasm.

C) the concentration of H+ ions in the cytoplasm is 8/7 the concentration in the mitochondrial matrix.

D) the concentration of H+ ions is tenfold higher in the mitochondrial matrix than in the cytoplasm.

E) the concentration of H+ ions is tenfold higher in the cytoplasm than in the mitochondrial matrix.

Answer:
E) the concentration of H+ ions is tenfold higher in the cytoplasm than in the mitochondrial matrix.

If one strand of a DNA molecule has the sequence of bases 5ʹATTGCA3ʹ, the other complementary strand would have the sequence

    A) 5ʹTAACGT3ʹ.

    B) 5ʹUGCAAU3ʹ.

    C) 5ʹUAACGU3ʹ.

    D) 3ʹUAACGU5ʹ.

    E) 5ʹTGCAAT3ʹ.

    E) 5ʹTGCAAT3ʹ.
I believe the answer is A...
No I thought the answer was A too because A-T, C-G but its not, my book and my teacher both stated the answer as E.

Because the template strand is going in the 5' -> 3' direction, you must replicate it in the opposite direction. Starting at the 3' end you would end up with a 5'->3' sequence of TGCAAT. That is why the answer is E
