Answer:
This was the nickname for a Greek painter. Born in Crete, he was trained in Italy and created most of his materpieces in Spain later in life. His style was greatly influenced by the Italian Renaissance and by the Byzantine art that he grew up with in Greece. He was not well respected during the Renaissance because of his disproportionate figures, but he has since gained respect as the father of 20th century cubism.
