Question: In the 1930s, Gordon Allport composed a comprehensive list of all of the traits he thought people could possess. How did he go about composing his list, and how many traits did he find?
Answer: Allport went through a dictionary and picked out every word he thought could describe a trait. Ultimately, he narrowed down his list to 4,500 traits.
