Radical in 70s and conservative 80s…Federalist (even though his friend(but later on enemy in politics) Jefferson wasn’t); main proponent of independence; defended British soldiers in the Boston Massacre. At the First Continental Congress he defeated the proposal for home rule under British direction. Also known as the Colossus of the Revolution. Worked with Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin to write the Declaration of Independence.
