Spleen: 2 funtions 1) Breakdown red blood cells Red Pulp Area- where the red blood cells are broken down, made mostly of macrophages 2) Fights infection White Pulp Area - area where blood born infections are fought, germincal cell center, b cell center and also some tcells in the oerifollicular areaGALT - Gut Assoicated lymphoid Tissue Lymphoid tissue where lymphocytes are able to respond to pathogens through access of the M CELLS *Pathogens enter M cells area and the dendritic cells immediately attack Once there is an infection it can spread rapidlu through lymphatic system FIGURE 1.25 pg 23
