How does genetic drift alter the genetic variation in a population? Why is it a relatively insignificant agent of evolution in all but the very smallest populations?

Genetic drift is characterized by random change in allele frequencies. Genetic drift decreased the genetic variation in a population over time. The larger a population is, the more likely that any deviations in on direction from our expectations are offset by deviations in the other direction. When this happens, the net effect is that the allele frequencies do not change. For this reason, genetic drift generally plays a significant role only in very small populations.

Explain how and why the h2 would change over generations of selective breeding for high egg-production.

When a characteristic has been selected for many generations, the response eventually levels off. Because genetic variation may be exhausted, at some point all individuals are homozygous. When there is no more additive genetic variation, heritability equals zero and no further response to selection can occur.
