Winston Churchill is most commonly known for being the British Prime minister during the Second World War. He was born into an aristocratic family and gained his fame as a war correspondent and through the books he wrote about his campaigns.The day the war began and Britain declared war on Germany in 1939, Churchill was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty and a member of the War Cabinet as he was during the First World War. He had very good relations with FDR, which provided Britain with food, munitions, and oil throughout the war. Although Churchill had a strong dislike for the Communist Party, he aided the Soviet Union with tanks and supplies when Hitler invaded the Soviet Union. Churchill had a strong dislike for Stalin and famously said,"If Hitler invaded Hell, I would at least make a favourable reference to the Devil in the House of Commons." He served as Prime Minister twice from 1940-1945 and 1951-1955 and served in other positions in Parliament.
