Treaty of Maastricht : European Union
Answer:
Maastricht is an industrial city in the Netherlands. It is here that the Treaty of Maastricht was signed on February 7, 1992. The Treaty started the path to political/economic union. Treaty of Maastricht basically had two goals: creating the European Union as well as fixing changing the problems the Treaty of Rome had. It is based on a three-pillar system, those of which include home affairs, economic affairs and foreign affairs. At the time it was signed, this treaty was seen as extremely controversial.
