Question: What is the synthesis essay?
Answer: Students are given a prompt to consider an issue and then they must write an essay on that issue and use some of the provided sources to support their assertions. For example, students may be asked to examine 7-8 short articles and then write an essay about whether or not America should lower the voting age. The prompt may ask students to take a stand on the issue, or it may ask students to consider the concepts that must be considered before changing the voting age.
