Why is electronegativity higher on the right side of the periodic table than on the left side?
Answer:
All elements except those in the far right column (the noble gasses) do not have a filled valence (outermost) electron shell. Those that are closer to the right have more electrons in their outer shell. They are close to getting that shell filled, so their electronegativity, or attaction to electrons, is higher.
