Charles Darwin The first evolutionary biologist and progenitor of the concepts of evolution and natural selection. Nothing came easily to this legendary naturalist. Admitting he was not made for medicine, he focused instead on zoology. A five year voyage on the H.M.S. Beagle and several years of research later, he published perhaps the most controversial work in history, The Origin of Species. Unfortunately, his peers were not as tame as the creatures of the Galapagos.
