What is the advantage of epithelium being avascular?
Answer:
Epithelium is usually at surfaces or boundaries where there may be a lot of abrasion. The cells are sloughed off and rapidly replaced. Avascularity is important in this situation so that blood vessels are not being broken or blood lost as the epithelial cells are shed.
