Question:
Why does the rate of an enzyme catalyzed reaction in a beakerget slower over time?
Answer:
As the reaction occurs, the amount of substrate gets less and less. Therefore the chances of a successful collision between enzyme and sybstrate molecules gets less and less and the rate slows down. (i.e. the concentration of substrate decreases over time) Note that the concentration of enzyme is NOT changed by the reaction.
