Question:
Imagine a dialysis tubing bag used to model a cell for a test of osmosis and diffusion. The bag contains a solution of 5% sucrose. What will happen to the bag if it is placed in a beakercontaining a 10% sucrose solution? Why?
Answer:
The bag will LOSEwater/mass because a 5% sucrose solution is 95% water and the 10% sucrose in the beaker is only 90% water. The water will follow the gradient from high to low concentration of water. Therefore the water will go from 95 % to 90 % (i.e. OUT of the bag)
